This is a baby quilt that clearly went on safari and came home with friends. Squares of tangerine, lime, coral, and soft lavender tumble across the top, each one crowded with little lions, giraffes, zebras, and monkeys, while a calm cream cross runs through the middle to give the eye a place to rest. Look closely and two black button eyes and a small red triangle peek out of that cream field, like some shy critter hiding in the herd. But the real magic is the quilting. The Animal Crackers Giraffe wanders all over in natural white thread, one long looping line drawing giraffe after giraffe, each with a tufted mane, a jaunty flick of tail, and a leafy palm frond bobbing overhead. On the sage minky backing those giraffes press up in soft relief, a whole plush little savanna you can run your hand across.
