Somebody left the jungle gate open, and the whole gang wandered onto this baby quilt. Twelve little windows show off a giraffe in striped stockings, a grinning gorilla, a chartreuse elephant, a toucan, a very smug lion, and a few spiky palm trees for good measure, all in lime, pool-water aqua, pumpkin orange, and soft grays. Zigzag bands run across the top and bottom like fancy ribbon, and a checkerboard frame of animal prints and tonal squares keeps everybody from escaping. All Leaf Simple rambles over the whole thing: plump, curving leaves (one continuous stitched line looping from leaf to leaf) tumble every which way, as if the palm trees gave themselves a good shake. Natural white thread keeps the leaves quiet on the cream and gives them a ghostly little glow on the black. The star-dotted outer border is the night sky over camp.
